Please join us on 28 November 2024 at 6 pm AEDT for a discussion of the Federal Court of Australia's decision in Neurim Pharmaceuticals (1991) Ltd v Generic Partners Pty Ltd (No. 5) [2024] FCA 360.

This seminar will consider the court's decision, and its implications for the enforcement of Swiss-style second medical use patent claims in Australia.

Our speakers are David Shavin KC (Emmerson Chambers) and Laura Thomas (Nigel Bowen Chambers).

David Shavin KC signed the Bar Roll in 1978 and took silk in 1993 in Victoria and in both NSW and New Zealand in 1994. He practices primarily in the Federal and High Courts (incl recently Myriad, Calidad and Aristocrat) and in the superior Courts of New Zealand, specialising in Patents, Trade Marks and Competition Law, having also taught the latter at a post graduate level with the Late Professor Brunt at Monash and Melbourne Universities and the Melbourne Business School.

Laura Thomas practises principally in intellectual property matters and has a particular interest in the intersection of intellectual property and competition law.  Admitted to the NSW Bar in 2011, Laura has degrees in Biochemistry and Law from the University of Sydney and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School.
